Fall, finally

Yes, this weekend it finally hit me.

It's fall.

Thanksgiving is four days away.

The warm temperatures had lulled me into a false sense of summer.  But the clouds and rain followed by glimpses of snow in the local mountains brought it home. Time to get ready for Thanksgiving.

We've hosted the holiday for both of our families for many years.  However...this is the first time in over 10 years that I haven't had trunk shows and art fairs competing for my attention in October and November.  So that refreshing change of pace coupled with the non-stop flip-flop weather put me a little behind schedule.

With lots of practice and our share of mistakes, we've come close to mastering the food preparation. (I used the word "mastering" loosely, by the way.)  So now, it's fun to focus on the decorating- my favorite part.  This weekend I embraced the season and spent some time putting together a few vignettes around the house.   I'm loving all of the fall colors right now.

In the past I've stayed pretty traditional with table decor...incorporating the expected china, glassware and centerpieces.  (Hard to believe, huh?) This year I'm parting with tradition and going for a mix of textile patterns and accessories.  And for the first time ever....paper plates.  (Insert many smiley faces here.)  Here's a peek at the mix!

I had fun designing the placecards.  I hope the family enjoys the embarrassing photos.

  1. They are going to freak out when they see the placecards! The colors of all things are juicy and fabulous. Great paper too!

  2. How fabulous! I love the idea of the paper plates also. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, and anyway, my family is so dysfunctional sadly the idea of all sitting around a table to celebrate anything is a bit dangerous to consider! But then, that's what I have my friends for thankfully..

  3. Cat...I hope they like them! They all enjoy a good laugh. Lucked out on the plates...they were the last of not much at Target.

Between The Trees- There's a first time for everything! Yeah...friends are the family we choose for ourselves, as they say. :)
